Application for Volunteer Service

The dedication and enthusiasm of our volunteers makes our work possible! At the Utah State Library for the Blind & Disabled, the ratio of volunteers to employees is about 10 to 1, contributing greatly to our ability to serve a growing number of people from all over the United States. We depend on volunteers daily to help us provide the best possible service to our blind and disabled population. Without this support, our capability to provide these services would be greatly limited.

There are many ways in which you can contribute. The volunteer program includes: Book Inspectors who inspect all outgoing books for missing or faulty cassettes; Narrators who read books;
Machine Repair volunteers who inspect and repair cassette players, record players and special radio receivers;
Machine Cleaners who wash and clean the returned equipment; and
Radio Reading Service volunteers who read selected articles from local newspapers and magazines.

The emphasis in the volunteer program is not only on the services provided, but also on volunteer training, interaction, involvement and satisfaction. On behalf of our patrons, we appreciate all the preparation and dedication our volunteers bring to this work.
